Tim Does the Double!

Tim Gibbons has won the Early Wednesday Series in a dinghy and the Early Season in a cruiser – probably the first time this has been done!

The dinghy Early Wednesday series finished on Wednesday last. Tim Gibbons was a strong contender all along, the final top places among the 13 boats racing being Laser Standard Rigs:

1st – Tim Gibbons

2nd – Stephen Finnegan

3rd – Colin Matthews

Wednesday’s wind initially looked promising, but gradually died throughout the race which had to be shortened as a result. Of the 7 boats competing, only two managed to overcome the strong incoming tide and cross the finishing line, Henry McLaughlin J in the RS400 and Tim Gibbons in the Laser. Tim won the race on handicap, confirming his winning place in the series.

Last week the cruiser Early Series was showing an exciting duel between Michael O’Hare’s Aurora and Mick McCann’s Invincible, but in Saturday’s 3 races, Tim Gibbons’ Warrior with two first places leapfrogged into the series winning place. There was a record 12 cruisers racing.

Series results were:

1st – Warrior – Tim Gibbons – 18 points

2nd – Invincible – Mick McCann – 20 points

3rd – Aurora – Michael O’Hare – 22 points

Coming up next is the cruiser Mid Series starting on Saturday 1-Jul-17, the start of the dinghy Mid Season on Sunday 2-Jul-17, the first of the dinghy Late Wednesday Series on 5-Jul-17 and the first of the Thursday Series on 6-Jul-17.
