What a fantastic day’s sailing for the coveted Blues on the Bay Open Regatta Trophy. Six cruisers competed over four courses in what can only be described as testing conditions ranging from near calm to marginal survival, with Easterly Force 6 winds in the final race.
As expected, Warrior, skippered by Tim Gibbons, and featuring a guest appearance of veteran sailor Johnny Morgan, led the fleet taking line honours in all four races, and hoisted the Blues on the Bay Trophy for the third consecutive year. Unlike some sports he doesn’t get to keep it but he can enjoy a nice bottle of red wine sponsored by The First and Last Bar.
Pending a protest by Don Campbell in Thetis, Chris Cassidy’s Sula which was second after Warrior in the CPH Handicap system, was presented with a bottle of wine, also courtesy of Kieran Fegan. Mick McCann in Invincible took third place on the podium.
This is the ninth year of the event with the Cup originally being presented by Ian Sands (Bay Blues Project Coordinator), in 2008.
