Exciting racing for the double regatta

Carlingford Lough Yacht Club was very pleased to host the inaugural Pat Dunbar Memorial Cup and inaugural Maiden of the Mournes Regatta last Saturday, which were run concurrently. Chris O’Hare was the Race Officer and Connla Conway laid a perfect course for four races, three of which were to count.

Winds were light but the competition was heavy – seven boats from CLYC and from Carlingford Sailing Club, competed for the double regatta – four races with two different handicap systems. Welcome new comer (for this year) Zuri, from Carlingford (Declan Murphy) was leading the Maiden of the Mournes Regatta until the last race, when Atlantic Diva (Gerry Byrne) leapt ahead and won the title.
In the Pat Dunbar Memorial Cup Regatta (postponed from two weeks previously due to bad weather), it was close competition on the water among the gennaker boats, but Tim Gibbons’s Warrior was the clear winner with 3 first places.

Pat Dunbar Memorial Cup:

1st place: Tim Gibbons, CLYC, Warrior – 3 points
2nd place: Chris Cassidy, CLYC, Sula – 6 points
3rd place: Mick McCann, CLYC, Invincible – 8 points
Maiden of the Mournes Regatta:
1st place: Gerry Byrne, CLYC, Atlantic Diva – 4 points (wins on most recent best points)
2nd place: Declan Murphy, Carlingford Sailing Club, Zuri – 4 points
3rd place: Chris Cassidy, CLYC, Sula – 9 points
