The cruiser racing has been active throughout August even though fleet numbers were reduced due to holidays. The Pat Dunbar Cup was won by Mick McCann’s Invincible with wins in Race 1 & 3.
In the CLYC Open Regatta the beautiful Claire McCann Trophy was won by Warrior skippered by Tim Gibbons who drove his crew hard to win four of the six races over two days racing. Invincible was runner up with Sunflower taking third.
In the inaugural East Coast Adventure Cup, the event was reduced to one race as a result of calm conditions. After a long slog to reach the finish line, the eventual winner was Brian McConville in his newly acquired J24, Proud Mary.
Unfortunately the Maiden of the Mournes event was cancelled last Saturday due to weather conditions but hopefully this will be rescheduled for later in the season.
Next week the fleet head to Warrenpoint for the Warrenpoint Open Regatta when crews will be competing for the coveted Whistledown Trophy. The event will be run over four races with Spinnaker and Whitesail classes. As an Open event all cruiser skippers are welcome to enter but they must register on-line with CLYC before Thursday 22nd August.
