RYA Navigation Courses

Course Content
This is a beginner's course, which assumes no prior experience and is intended to be both enjoyable and informative. It introduces basic navigation, including chartwork, position fixing, tides, buoyage, and passage planning as well as the essential subjects of safety and meteorology. The course is equally suited to both sail and powerboat users. With the increasing use of modern electronic aids to navigation, an introduction to the safe use of G.P.S. is also included. The course is essential preparation for the RYA Day Skipper Practical Course.

Duration
20 weeks of 2 hours tuition, one night per week

Previous Experience Required
None - Although some practical experience is desirable



Course Content
This is an advanced course which assumes prior completion of the RYA Day Skipper course or the equivalent knowledge and is intended to be both. It develops more advanced navigation, including chart work, position fixing, tides, buoyage, and offshore passage planning as well as the essential subjects of safety, International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea and meteorology. With the increasing use of modern electronic aids to navigation, the use of G.P.S. is also included. This course is equally suited to both sail and powerboat users and is essential preparation for the RYA Coastal Skipper Practical Course or the Yachtmaster Examination.

Duration
20 weeks of 2 hours tuition, one night per week

Previous Experience Required
Knowledge of navigation up to RYA Day Skipper level.
